oh hi, thanks for stopping by.
Your attention is sacred and I appreciate your interest in what we do.
I’d love to take a moment to introduce myself and share a bit of the story behind Sungold Flower Co. I’m Caitlin Robinson and I started Sungold Flower Co. back in 2017 with my dear friend Anna Glenn of Rocklands Farm Winery, in an effort to bring authentically seasonal and local floral designs to folks’ most important celebrations. Back then, we averaged 25-40 weddings per year, growing and foraging nearly 100% of the flowers and foliage ourselves. Because of the ever-changing ingredients available to us, each wedding was a unique and singular event. We loved tuning in each week to what was in its prime in the garden and along the roadsides. Farming, floral design, and delivering events were an almost daily devotion. Our text messages back and forth to each other during that time are filled with photos and exclamations over what was coming into season, what colors were inspiring us, what we were filling vases with on the dining room table. Our mantra became “There is no shortage of material.”
As you can probably imagine, Covid changed a lot for us. Just as Spring was about to begin, and our fields and hoop houses were about to burst with early season blooms, all events came to a screeching halt. Weddings were postponed, sometimes more than once, and every flower we had spent months caring for and had planned on using in bouquets and centerpieces and ceremony arches all of a sudden had no place to go. We had to pivot, and quick.
We immediately launched a Spring flower delivery subscription to folks in upper Montgomery County and NW Washington, DC. Tulips, ranunculus, and peonies now had an outlet and we sold out every single week. People were stuck at home, dealing with uncertainty, loneliness, and chaos and our flowers offered a bright spot for many during a difficult time. My Friday delivery route and masked, distanced flower hand-offs brought me immense joy as well.
This new mode of selling flowers in our community caused a major shift for me as a business owner. I LOVED it. And I immediately knew that I’d continue the offering in some capacity, even after quarantine was over. For the past four years, Sungold Flower Co. has offered some sort of Springtime flower subscription and each iteration has brought the business closer to where we are now, focusing our efforts on: peonies and specialty plant starts for home gardeners in the Spring and workshops and event floral design throughout the year.
Anna recently stepped into the Creative Director role at Rocklands Farm Winery and continues to make flowers a big and beautiful part of the Rocklands experience, offering a yearly Dahlia Subscription, pop-up flower bars, and other hands-on floral experiences. Even though I’m running Sungold on my own these days, our text messages are still filled with photos of flowers and “check this out!” and “can you believe this color?!”
The common thread that runs between the THEN and the NOW is this: Sungold exists to help make the world more beautiful. We grow exceptionally gorgeous flowers, we empower home-gardeners to do the same, and we design wildcrafted florals that tell the unique story of your celebration.
We’re always looking to nature for inspiration. And believe me, there is no shortage of material.
Thank you so much for being here.
